The serial creator

Having just finished another podcast, I am starting to understand the struggles of creators of serial pieces. In particular, perfection is both never excessible, because of deadlines, and never desirable, because of expectations. When you have to sustain your creative and energy outputs from one work to the next, you can’t pour your heart and soul into any single piece without setting yourself up for disaster. Of course I want to make every episode better than the last, but really, practically, if they get better it will have to be from that experience and implicite learning process, rather than my actively pushing it up a knotch every segment.

I feel your pain, webcomic artists, as I start to understand your struggle.

Conference recovery time

Relatively new to the conference circuit, I am still teaming with excitement and ideas days after the end of MCM 2009. Four days of new and awesome people, talks of a great range of relevance to my own interests and way too little sleep. Now I am torn between trying to be productive to make the most of my whirring mind, or curl into a sleepy ball to satisfy my spent brain.

In particular, I’ve got a paper idea growing along the themes of temporal variation of rhythmic complexity in Steve Reich‘s music, kind of like Ernst Kurth meets Godfrey Toussaint with me as a translator.

Now Podcasting!

Who knew it was this easy? well, plenty of people, anyway, the Dancing Diaries are now available in podcast form, so the feed here
and enjoy these and future dancing adventures. The latest episode, on the Friday Downtown Stomp at Cat’s Corner (i.e. Swing dancing, w00t!) is 11 minutes of motion inspiring fun. Or so says I.

More dancing diaries

Now on their own page! and with most of the links fixed for download.

This step is on belly dancing, and included a class and interview with Maya Baladi. Again it is a bilingual segment, Montreal style i.e. without translation. They are the Montreal dancing diaries, after all…

I am thinking about trying to podcast these but I need to develop more promo material – like having picture of these dancing adventures. Maybe I need a photographer, by which I mean a friend who will take picture of me for fun, not profit.
