Communicating scientific ideas and excitement has been a passion of Finn’s for years, from lecturing on embodied metaphors in mathematics to high school students (it was 2003) to teaching Psychology of Music at NYU. Reading and writing disabilities have made communication through text more challenging for Finn, but the advantages of the essay form can be worth the extra effort.
The common thread to much of Finn’s essay writing has been the experiences of humans receiving art, bringing together questions and experimental results from perception, social cognition, performance, aesthetics, evolution, and neuroscience. Interdisciplinary research is so much easier when you are just making use of other scientists’s empirical work : )
